Current Research in Environmental Sustainability
Our first journal article from the Marine SABRES project is now available to read online through ‘Current Research in Environmental Sustainability’
Current modeling practices for social-ecological systems are often qualitative and use causal loop diagrams, as these models promote an evaluation of the systems loops and variable connectivity. The literature review undertaken by the authors as part of this research paper, demonstrates that quality assurance of these models often lacks a consistent validation procedure. Therefore, a guide to improving the validation of qualitative models is presented.
The presumed utility protocol is a multi-dimensional protocol with 26 criteria, organized into four dimensions, designed to assess specific parts of the modeling process and provide recommendations for improvement, and has been applied to three demonstration areas:

Stakeholder Workshops in Fuerteventura
Our partners at ECOAQUA (ULPGC) and HuFoss have successfully completed their second round of stakeholder focused workshops which were held in January, in Centro Insular de Juventud del Cabildo de Fuerteventura.
This workshop was designed to address coastal management and conservation strategies by creating a multi-actor forum with people working in the marine environment, which facilitated discussions regarding the balance between socio-economic activities and marine conservation.
ICES Annual Science Conference 2025
The Call for Abstracts for ICES Annual Science Conference 2025 which will be held from the 15-18 September in Lithuania, is now open and we are excited to announce that the Marine SABRES and MARBEFES projects will hold a co-convened thematic session as part of this year's proceedings entitled 'Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services for a Sustainable Future'.
Le Scienze Article
We would like to congratulate our Marine SABRES colleague Lisandro Benedetti-Cecchi (University of Pisa), who was recently featured in the January edition of Le Scienze (the Italian edition of ‘Scientific America’) with his article ‘Proteggere la biodiversità marina’ (Protecting Marine Biodiversity).
